Welsh Mathematics
That Robert Recorde invented the equals sign is quite commonly known in Wales. However there is a rich history of mathematics and mathematicians beyond Recorde. Twelve mathematicians are shown here and thanks are due to Emeritus Professor Gareth Ffowc Roberts for providing them. He has written a book about them, called For the Recorde. Our hope is that this will allow us all to learn about the work of Wales’s distinguished mathematicians, which in turn will inspire a new generation of mathematicians.

Professor Roberts had previously written Count Us In which explores processes of mathematics from a cultural perspective and contains many interesting insights into Mathematics in Wales.
