Supporting Mathematics Teachers in Wales

The FMSPW provides advice, resources and professional learning to teachers to help enrich the mathematical experience of students and promote the continued study of mathematics.

The FMSPW is committed to supporting schools and colleges and has been delivering professional learning since 2014, we have supported hundreds of teachers from schools/colleges across Wales.

Professional Learning courses 2020

The FMSPW has developed an extensive range of resources that we are very happy to share with teachers.

All schools and colleges in Wales are invited to register with the FMSPW to obtain free single user teacher access to the Integral Further Maths resources (Integral). The resources include materials to support the teaching and learning of A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Additional Mathematics Level 2 certificate and STEP, MAT and AEA examinations.

We are very pleased to offer a range of free training opportunities including one-day workshops, on-line sessions, topic/module specific sessions, in-school options as well as longer courses delivered at a nearby University.

One-day conference for Mathematics teachers

26 June 2020 Swansea University, Bay Campus

Following our very successful inaugural Conference in July 2019, The Further Mathematics Support Programme Wales is pleased to announce our second one-day conference for Mathematics teachers from schools in Wales.

There will be two intertwined strands: 16-18 Mathematics and 11-18 Mathematics, Technology and Art.

The conference will be opened by Glyn Jones, Chief Statistician for Wales and the keynote speakers will be Dr Alison Clark-Wilson (UCL) and Neil Sheldon (Teaching Statistics Trust).

The conference includes sessions on:

  • The Flipped Classroom Approach and other innovative methods
  • Geogebra and digital resources
  • STEAM - Adding arts to STEM
  • Girls and Mathematics
  • Technology in statistics and the data-handling cycle
  • Mathematics assessment in Japan - Osaka Kyoiku University
  • A level Mathematics & Further Mathematics PL

All sessions are intended to equip delegates with practical ideas, skills and resources to implement in the classroom.

  • Mid and South Wales - Tailored in-school sessions on any topic/module FM1,FM2,FM3,FM4, FM5 and/or FM6
  • South Wales - Geogebra

In-school Professional Learning

FMSPW is also very pleased to be able to ofer tailored in-school support on any topics from the following modules: FM1, FM2, FM3, FM4, FM5, FM6, A Level Maths Unit 2 or Unit 4 and Level 2 Additional Maths. With the aim to increase teaching capacity in the future. FMSPW can provide free full or half day workshops for 2 or more members of staff. Courses would be at a time to suit the school/college.

"With the retirement of our former HOD 2 years ago, there was no one confident enough to deliver the FM course. Thanks to the support of the FMSPW we are now running the FM AS course at school and hope to continue this into the future"

Course Costs

All the professional learning opportunities are free for teachers from state funded schools and colleges. A contribution towards supply cover costs are paid for weekday courses at a fixed rate of £100 per person per day
